Coalition Pushes Back on Proposed 43% Copyright Fee Increase

On May 4, the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) led a broad coalition of independent music organizations in filing formal comments with the U.S. Copyright Office opposing a proposed 43% average increase in copyright registration fees. Representing over 600 independent labels and tens of thousands of songwriters, musicians, and managers, the coalition warned that the increase could price independent creators out of the registration system. Supporting organizations include Music Managers Forum-US, Artist Rights Alliance, Recording Academy, Society of Composers & Lyricists, Songwriters of North America, Songwriters Guild of America, Music Artists Coalition, American Federation of Musicians, Alliance for Women Film Composers, and Future of Music Coalition, underscoring widespread concern across the industry.
