SONA’s signature In The Room w/ series is back live and in-person in Los Angeles and features a conversation with Shira Perlmutter (Register of Copyrights and Director, U.S. Copyright Office) and Erik Bertin (Acting Associate Register of Copyrights and Director of Registration Policy and Practice). This conversation will be moderated by SONA Executive Director, Erin McAnally. 

SONA members, this event will be in-person in Los Angeles on April 1 from 10 - 11:15 A.M. PT (doors at 9:45 A.M.). You will receive a confirmation email with location and parking information if there are seats available. Space is limited and registration is required and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please only register if you plan to attend.

About Shira

Shira Perlmutter is the Register of Copyrights and Director of the U.S. Copyright Office. Appointed in October 2020, Perlmutter advises Congress and executive branch agencies on copyright policy and directs the administration of important provisions of the U.S. Copyright Act, leading a workforce of nearly 500 employees.

About Erik
Erik Bertin is Acting Associate Register and Director of Registration Policy and Practice for the United States Copyright Office. He was appointed to the position effective August 31, 2025.

Bertin leads the Office of Registration Policy and Practice, which administers the U.S. copyright registration system; advises the Register of Copyrights on questions of registration policy and related regulations; and manages a diverse portfolio of legal, policy, and governance matters.
