About The Event
Join us on September 16th for our next Lunch and Learn - our virtual series exclusively for SONA members that showcases experts in our field with a guided conversation and member Q&A. This next installment will cover the topic of “Tools to Manage Your Songwriting Catalog” with Lily C. Hansen, Author and Interviewer.
After conducting over 2,000 interviews in her career as a journalist, host, and author, Lily Clayton Hansen started to reflect on her best practices for delivering a story in a podcast, on TV, or in the written format. “Media training used to just be reserved for celebrities, but with the rising interest in real people’s stories, everyone has to be red carpet ready all the time,” says Hansen. Yet, the veteran interviewer believes the process of learning to give a great interview can be fun rather than arduous.
By implementing some strategic pre-preparation practices (perfect for those who love to do their homework), understanding on an emotional level why public speaking is so terrifying (“getting over that is half the battle,” says Hansen,) and fine-tuning key elements like your origin story, anyone can deliver a great interview. All it takes is some practice, self compassion, self exploration, and… you guessed it. Practice. “After doing over 2,000 interviews, I can honestly say everyone is uniquely fascinating because I have never met the same person twice,” says Hansen. “However, conveying your story in a concise, palatable way is an art form that requires some thought, so you can rock that interview and use it to elevate your platform.”
