In March of 2018, seven members of the SONA Executive Committee, along with SONA’s legislative committee head (and DC Local) Matt Squire, traveled to Washington DC to lobby for the Music Modernization Act.

Funded entirely by grassroots efforts and membership dues as low as $25 a year, the LA-based songwriters flew across the country to “walk the halls” of the Capitol buildings - meeting with Members of Congress and the Senate and their staff, playing songs and advocating for copyright reform.

A month later, the MMA passed unanimously in the House and then later in September, passed in the Senate by unanimous consent to become the law of the land!
